The National Association of Sachet and Packaged water Producers disclosed that the prices of Sachet and bottled water will increase from today Monday, 27th December, 2021.
A statement from the National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Association of Sachet and Packaged water Producers (NASPAWAP) demystified that the increase in prices was as a result of the expansion of cost in packaging, high cost of purchasing spare parts, fuel among others.
According to the association, Ghana has the highest taxes on locally manufuctured and Packaged goods around the globe noting further that the importation of bottled water is affecting local manufacturers.
The president of the Association,Mr Magnus Nunoo has recommended that the 500ml bottled water will be pegged at GH1.50 and the 750ml or medium size bottled water will be sold at GH2.00 while the 1.50L or large bottled water will be retailed at GH3.50.
He also noted that Iced Sachet water will be retailed at 40Pesewas and a bag of pure water Sachet, 500ml by 30Pieces will now sell at GH4.50 from the retail trucks while mini shops will by today sell a bag of Sachet water at GH6.
Mr Nunoo also revealed that taxes on the imported materials for indigenous production of water are huge which is becoming difficult for local water industries.
In his closing remarks,he reminded consumers that any bottled water they purchase has a fixed lexy of 23.5% besides Value Added Tax(VAT) due to the indirect taxes , manufacturing and distribution costs and he (Nunoo)said the fixed levies are characterized by 17.5% tax in addition to 6% lexy before the value added tax(VAT).
