Accra Zoo to reopen soon – Benito Owusu-Bio

Preparations are underway to reopen the Accra Zoo to the public after its closure on 29th August 2022.

The Deputy Minister responsible for Lands and Forestry, Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, announced this when he paid a working visit to the zoo to inspect the progress made towards the reopening of the zoo, which closed due to intrusion.

He tasked the zoo manager, Mr Stephen Tamanja, to set up a security post close to the lions’ den and an outside perimeter fence to ward off trespassers to ensure public safety.

Mr Owusu-Bio also urged authorities of the zoo to provide restrooms around the waiting area and signages in the various animal cages.

Mr John Allotey, the CEO of the Forestry Commission disclosed that new species and breeds of animals would be brought from the Kumasi Zoo and the Shai Hills to increase tourist visits.
