The former Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage has donated food, medicines and several other items to inmates at the Navrongo Central Prisons.
The donation, made on Sunday (2nd July), was to marked the celebration of her 59th birthday. The former ambassador to Italy since 2019 has been donating to the correctional facility on her birthdays.
This year’s donation included 200 packs of cooked food and sachets of water, sets of sterilizers and hairdryers. The other items were packs of medicines and three sets of sewing machines.
In a heartwarming speech, Tangoba recounted her journey since she starting supporting the prison in 2019 and how it was her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of the inmates. She noted that her birthdays have always provided a fine occasion to give back to society.

She said: “normally I love assisting the vulnerable in communities. It’s one of my key areas of support. Prisons all over Ghana are vulnerable. Sometimes when you listen to their stories, you realize their feeding is not the best.”
Since 2019, I have been visiting the Navrongo Prisons every year on my birthday. I remember in 2020 when I came to visit the prison, they requested that they needed sewing machines to help rehabilitate their inmates and I promised to get them the sewing machines.
She added: “Unfortunately, I could not get the industrial sewing machine so I bought them 3 manual sewing machines and then two standing hair dryers, and two sterilising machines.”

Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Alhassan Nyankpani, who received the items on behalf of the facility, expressed gratitude to Tangoba for the thoughtful gesture.
He stated that her act of kindness will help uplift spirits within the facility and contribute significantly towards the reformation of the inmates.
While he assured that the sewing machines and other equipment will be put to use beneficial to the inmates, ASP Nyankpani seized the opportunity to appeal to other benevolent entities to support in prison in reforming inmates.
