The Bawku West District Chief Executive, Hon. Ahmed Tahiru Issahaku has presented eight (8) motorbikes to eight facilities under the Social Cohesion Project (SOCO). The project is divided into four clusters, with each cluster receiving two motorbikes to facilitate their work. Community facilitators are responsible for monitoring the grounds and mobilizing resources in their respective areas.
They are also tasked with identifying individuals who can be engaged in Local Economic Development (LED) projects and facilitating physical infrastructure projects in their communities. They are expected to report their findings back to the assembly for further action.
Hon. Tahiru explained that the Social Cohesion Project aims to promote unity among members of the various communities, thereby reducing the risk of youth involvement in external influences such as terrorism, jihadist groups, and violent behaviour. The program, therefore, seeks to redirect the youth towards improving their lives and fostering peaceful coexistence.
This project is funded by the government of Ghana with support from the World Bank and is being implemented in forty-eight (48) districts in Northern Ghana.
